Many land surveyors are comfortable with a sharp, “accurate” tip on the end of the survey rod, and some new surveyors may not even be familiar with other types of shoes or blunt tips.

Occasionally, the accuracy of the 1″ diameter PointSpotter paint spot comes into question.

Keep in mind that the natural movement of land surfaces often exceeds the diameter of any survey marker.

Soil and Pavement are Dynamic

They are constantly moving, usually in small amounts, because of:

Expansion and Contraction due to MOISTURE CONTENT

Some more expansive soils are so active, structures on them require some form of isolation from soil expansion.

During low rainfall, contractive forces are so great that large ground cracks will form, some wider than the survey marker.

Expansion and Contraction due to TEMPERATURE

Temperature affects pavement dimensions, thus requiring slotted, periodic expansion gaps to prevent stress and strain.

Expansion and Contraction due to VEGETATION DENSITY

The roots of plants and trees expand and shift surrounding ground, and also influence the soil moisture content.

Movement due to EROSION

Water and ice will cause entire acres of land to shift or slide, often unnoticed.

Rise and Fall due to GRAVITY

“Solid-body tides” (ground tides) caused by the Moon and Sun displace the ground almost one foot vertically, twice each day.

It is common to forget about types of terrain outside of your surveying experience.

Remember that there are paved cities, swamps, glaciers, deserts, tropics, plains, mountains, seabeds, and caves… all of them surveyed, and all of them in continual movement.

Of course that is information we use to help better market our services and good to our customers but we basically do it with our in store customers, why not include our on-line shoppers as well? that has brought me to today’s blog entry-

KENWOOD 2 Way Radio Repair, Warranty or Service info

Stakemill has used the Kenwood Service Center East on a regular basis since 2002 and we have been very satisfied with their quality of repairs and response times. They are a Warranty/Service Depot only, consequently they deal in large volumes which enables their facility to invest in the best diagnostic and repair equipment available. Also, they have Radio Technicians that specialize in specific lines of radios to increase the efficiency of repairs. They also have an advantage (compared to Radio Dealers), in Parts Inventory levels. Warranty repairs are performed @ N/C.

Following is some insight on the Kenwood Serial Numbering System. It is only necessary to provide a copy of the Invoice to prove that the radio is still in warranty (the 1-2 Year Manufacturer’s Warranty starts on the date of purchase by the First Radio End-User not on the date the Radio was originally manufactured) in instances where the individual radio’s Serial Number is past the 1-2 Year Manufacturing date. Otherwise the Kenwood Service Center will recognize that the radio is in warranty just by looking at the Serial Number.

 Serial Number Dating Format:

• The First Number corresponds to the Kenwood Fiscal Year it was manufactured in.

• The Second and Third Numbers correspond to the Month of manufacture.

• Kenwood's Fiscal Year is April through March.

• 2006 is represented by the Number 8, 2009 by the Number 1, 2010 goes to 2, 2011 will be represented by the Number 3, 2012 will be 

represented by the Number 4, etc. (I.E. 1st three digits of 101 would represent a manufacture date of April, 2009, 1st three digits of 412 would 
represent a manufacture date of March, 20012 1st three digits of 001 would represent a manufacture date of April, 2008)

• The Kenwood Warranty is effective for 2-Years for Radios and 1-Year for Kenwood original accessories (including rechargeable 

batteries), measured from the date of purchase by the first End-User.
